At Baldor Specialty Foods, sustainability is a core value. We are committed to making a positive impact on our business and the environment through our sustainability initiatives. By actively engaging with our stakeholders—growers, shippers, customers and employees—we strive to implement sustainable practices that maximize the value of all resources used in the distribution and production of all the food products we sell.
In 2016, we developed a program in our Fresh Cuts facility to completely divert food products from landfill. This program, termed SparCs (scraps spelled backwards) ensures 100% of the leftover food product generated from processing fruits and vegetables, about 150,000 pounds per week, is captured and used for human or animal consumption. We continuously explore different avenues to utilize SparCs. We work with several chefs who incorporate SparCs into recipes for broth, sauces, juice, and baked goods.
How to join the SparCs to Chef Program
1. Open your Baldor Account
2. Sign the SparCs Waiver (please contact your sales representative to receive a copy of Baldor SparC's Program waiver)
3. Order samples to cook
4. Order through our website or with your sales representative at least 48 hours in advance. If orders exceed 100 Lbs per item, please contact your sales representative for guidance in ordering dates, certain circumstances may require a week lead time.
5. Once we receive your order our Fresh Cuts department will be in charge of making sure that all quantities and products requested are safely packed and sealed for shipping. Our packaging displays dates produced; we suggest using the product within 7 days of production.
6. Our pre-order policy is final sale. Please take this into consideration when placing an order.
We are excited for you to join the SparCs to Chef program, together we can combat the discarding of perfectly edible food!
